We deserve a cleaner, greener district. Steve wants toi ncrease park space, expand recycling programs, increase energy efficiency, and provide tax credits for local businesses that use green technology.

Steve recognizes the value of parks and open spaces in our communities. We need to preserve our natural spaces while creating more parkland. Steve wants to plant at least 1,000 new trees throughout our district by the end of his term as city councilperson.

Steve wants to expand our current recycling program so thatit will include more materials that can be reused. Less trash on our streets means a cleaner community making Queens a better place to live.

Although carbon emissions come from the overuse of automobiles, most emissions are produced by buildings throughout New York City.To clean up our community and city we need to increase energy efficiency in city buildings. Steve wants to retrofit older buildings: replacing old systems with new technology that is more environmentally friendly and energy efficient. This will save the city and local businesses money and reduce the carbon footprint of New Yorkers. Steve will also introduce legislation requiring new structures to be built on rigid standards of energy efficiency reducing carbon emissions for the future.

Creating an incentive for small business, Steve plans to fight for a tax credit to businesses that install solar panels and other energy efficient initiatives. Throughout the country similar programs are extremely successful in providing a much needed tax break for small business while providing a greener neighborhood. Investing in green technology and energy efficiency is incredibly important as it both saves money and helps the environment. Steve wants to reward businesses that invest in our environment and our future.

Steve wants to expand the fuel resources we use to include renewable resources. Instead of just using fossil fuels we should be utilizing wind and solar energy as well and 2nd and 3rd generation biofuels. These energy sources will not only cut down on carbon emissions, they will help move us towards energy independence.

Steve wants to bring the community together to create new parks. As councilperson, he will work to establish public and private partnership to help fund new parks and trees. This will bring people together with local businesses as well as corporations and national non-profits to build parks and preserve open spaces. Parks and open spaces improve the quality of life in an area; they lower pollution, bring communities together, and provide places for family-friendly fun.
